4th Annual Placer Farm & Barn Tour
Sunday, October 14, 2007
The 4th annual Placer Farm and Barn Tour will take place on Sunday, October 14, 2007 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The Placer Farm and Barn Tour was created in 2004 to connect area residents, especially families, with local agriculture and agricultural history. It is a one-day self-guided tour of local farms, ranches and historical sites. Each venue provides an array of activities and demonstrations, from plowing fields with a mule team to planting trees and building ponds and bat houses. Field tours educate about pond management, weed control, irrigation management and water conservation. Cooking demonstrations, educational activities with 4-H and FFA members and talks about ethnic history provide insight into Placer County's agricutural traditions. Tour hosts offer samples of farm-fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, baked goods, olives, olive oils and local wines, along with opportunties to purchase fresh produce. It's a fun-filled and educational day for families and people of all ages, with live music and dozens of local Placer County artists demonstrating their craft and offering artwork for sale. The centerpoint of the day is PlacerArts' AGROart™Competiton at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed in Loomis, where talented artists of every age craft quirky sculptures out of fresh fruits and vegetables and vie for cash prizes.
